Rhetorica Newsflash: 24/07/2014

Hey debaters. A few resources and updates on events that have happened over the summer:
1. The institute for the study of violent groups (ISVG) Has an excellent database covering the composition, history and resources of virtually every significant non-state group out there. I'd recommend reading up on Hamas, currently in the process of being bombed by Israel, and on ISIS, the Al-Qaeda offshoot which has recently seized control of close to a third of Iraq.

2, An anti-feminist movement called "Women against feminist" has recently gone viral and is both interesting and bound to come up in future tournaments. Below are links to a time article explaining the nature of the group and the groups facebook page. As always just because they're worth knowing about doesn't mean they're right.

3. A Malaysian airlines plane was shot down while flying over Ukraine, The mainstream European news-channels are largely failing to provide unbiased coverage and the same applies to Russian channels. 4. Israel is yet again at war with Hamas. Don't be misled by people who claim one side is righteous, both have acted unjustly. Hamas (which controls the Gaza strip) has continuously launched rockets at Israel, is violently anti-Semitic and it's publicly stated end goal is the total destruction of Israel. Israel has continuously blockaded the Gaza strip and continues to expand it's illegal settlements into Palestinian territory.
